intent
i’ve never been great with resolutions, mostly because i was afraid to change, but, if superbetter taught me anything, i’ve learned that having a long-term goal to be mindful of really does help to shape the way i react to events in my daily life.
so, in 2012, i will work toward becoming more intentional in everything i do.
- i will eat better food so i can lower my cholesterol (190 at 29?!) and be better prepared to be a better athlete.
- i will set goals for practices and plans for workouts, rather than just hoping i somehow get better, faster and stronger.
- i will consider the real costs before spending money on dumb shit i don’t need, perhaps going as far as committing to getting rid of an old item before bringing a new one home. in fact, i will commit to that, because i really need to putting my money toward getting out of debt.
- i will continue to say the things i feel i need to say to people, but i will be far more considerate of how i say it and perceptive to how they hear it.
- i will be more demonstratively thankful to the great people in my life. more than just expressing my gratitude more (which is a good start), i also want to do more to be a better friend to these people.
so, really, i have two goals for the year. 1) be more mindful of how things affect me (and others). 2) be more intentional about hanging onto the good things and ridding my life of the bad things.
for the first time i can remember, i feel pretty about the year that just passed and very hopeful for the year to come.
